1 inch 2.54 cm multiply the number of inches you have by 2.54 to get centimeters, e.g. 10" x 2.54 = 25.4 cm
1 cm .394 inches multiply the number of centimeters you have by .394 to get the equivalent inches
1 foot .3048 meters multiply the number of feet you have by .3048 to get meters
1 yard .9144 meters multiply the number of yards you have by .9144 to get meters
1 meter 1.0936 yards multiply the number of meters you have by 1.0936 to get yards
1 gram .035 ounces multiply the number of grams you have by .035 to get ounces
1 ounce 28.57 grams multiply the number of ounces you have by 28.57 to get grams

REMEMBER! If you are substituting yarn in a pattern, it is the total YARDAGE that is important NOT the weight of the yarn!

For example, if the pattern calls for 10 50-g/1.75oz (120m/131yds) balls of wool, you will need to buy at least 10 x 120m/131yds or 1200m/1310yds of the yarn you wish to use in order to have enough for your pattern.
