Product Description

Like chocolate-y goodness, is there really such a thing as too many cables?! This wonderfully unique poncho top features lots of intertwining cables on the front and back - making it a project that will surely not bore you!

A wide center panel of curvy interlocking cables is flanked by two smaller basic cables. Then on either side of this center panel, there are smaller meandering cables that echo the movement of the center panel and mirror each other. Not to worry! It's all charted out and written out for you to follow with precision.

Shoulders and neckline are shaped to flatter, and the shoulder seams are sewn (helps add stability to the top). Then, the simple rounded neckline is picked up and ribbed and the bottom shaped border is picked up and created with the use of short rows. The slight ruffling of the bottom border adds a nice feminine feel to the piece.

Oh - and I forgot to mention the hidden knit in pockets. These are optional, as are the ribbed short sleeves, but they do add interest and practicality!

If you choose not to do the ribbed short sleeves, the front and back can just be sewn up the sides, leaving enough of an opening for your arms, or you can just sew at the underarm to leave the sides open for maximum poncho effect (and to avoid overheating in the warmer months, as this piece lends itself to being very easily thrown over an outfit for instant layered warmth and style).

Polished enough for the office in subdued colors, like the perfect heathered grey shown here, or lots of fun to wear in a light, fresh color.

Special thanks to Elann.com for contributing the fabulous Peruvian Highland Chunky yarn used for the sample. See more about Elann.com as the Featured Yarn Shop.

  1. love this pattern

Posted by josephine on 6th Oct 2014

I'm making a cardigan with this pattern plus a couple of others in the ends and it is so easy to adjust the center to make the two front panels. Just have a few days to knit to complete the sweater and can't wait to wear it.

  2. lovey cable

Posted by Josephine on 6th Oct 2014

I'm making a sweater with this pattern and very happy with the outcome. It should be finished this week and can't wait to wear it.

  3. Super Cool Knitting Patterns

Posted by Teckla on 19th Mar 2014

This pattern is on my To Do list and will be a challenge for me, but I'm looking forward to it! This is one of several of her patterns that I own. I just like her designs--they are feminine, which I love, and are beautifully textured, often looser in style which is great for us plus size knitters. They are lacy and I love lace! Sweater Babe is a great designer!

  4. Beautiful pattern

I love this pattern. The cable designs are spectacular! I'll probably make it in a worsted weight rather than chunky and maybe in a lighter color...though I like gray. Katherine's patterns are always so much fun to knit, especially the cabled ones.

  5. Great bulky knit

Posted by Knitsingreen. (Ravelry user name) on 9th Mar 2013

I don't usually work with bulky yarn but I liked this pattern. I had to pick up fewer stitches on the bottom band to keep it from rippling. I did the robbed sleeve and sewed the side seams. It's a warm comfortable sweater over a turtleneck

{Note from SweaterBabe: The bottom had an intentional slight ruffle to add a feminine touch, but picking up few sts is a great option!)
