Product Description

Here's a shawl/scarf that is just the thing to add a feminine flourish to any outfit. This versatile piece works equally well as a shawl wrapped around the shoulders or as a scarf worn boho style and looped around your neck.

Beautiful and delicate Stockinette stitch leaves are suspended against open garter stitch on one long edge. The body of the shawl is knit in a simple eyelet lace that echoes the openness and keeps the whole piece light and airy.

This is your quintessential shawl/scarf that will take you easily from spring through fall, especially if knit in a season-spanning color, like the Antique Lace shown here. Requires only 2 (gorgeous!) hanks of Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light yarn. Ends are tapered for extra flair, but if you want to keep it simpler, just omit the shaping and work this as a rectangle.

Fave/Queue this pattern on Ravelry.

Finished Knit Measurements: Version 1 – Rectangle Shape: 15 ¾" [40 cm] wide (at widest point) x 65" [165 cm] long. Version 2 – Tapered Rectangle Shape: 15 ¾" [40 cm] wide (at widest point) x 81 ¾" [207.5 cm] long (longer edge).

Skill Level: intermediate-85.jpg  Tapered Rectangle shape shown here. Easier Rectangle version included in these instructions.

Yarn Used: Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light (100% Superwash Merino Wool); 3.5 oz/100 g [420 yds/384 m] per hank): 2 hanks in Color Antique Lace. NOTE: The Tapered Rectangle Version uses up most all of the yarn, so be sure your gauge is correct.

Gauge(s):
Pattern Gauge: 27 sts = 4 ½" [11.5 cm] in Leaf Edging (widest point); 32 rows = 5" [12.5 cm] in Leaf Edging; 17 sts = 3 ½" [9 cm] in Lace St.
Yarn Label Gauge and Information:

  1. beautiful shawl!

    I have knitted this shawl for myself in beige and for a colleague in black. Although Dutch is my native language I could easily understand the English description.

    Lovely. I'm making this for my granddaughter's wedding next year. It will be a lovely addition.

  3. Lovely

    Although I haven't yet started this project, when I saw it, I knew it was one of those things that HAD to be knit! I love knitting lace and when looking through the pattern it appears that it will be very easy to follow. Looking forward to finishing up the baby sweaters I am making so I can start it.
