Product Description

The wide lace border on this triangular shawl is reason enough to want to knit up this seamless beauty! In addition, it's a thoroughly indulgent accessory with its generous and cozy size.

The soothing mix of textures begins with a Garter stitch tab technique, which sets up the triangular shape. The Garter stitch edgings continue throughout the main Stockinette stitch body, with a few bands of seed stitch for added textural interest.

After the last seed stitch band, the leaf and nupp (bobble) lace border is knit, ending with a neat, ribbed edge. Nupps can be omitted.

Knit this shawl in a worsted-weight yarn with beautiful stitch definition and softness, such as the alpaca shown here. Other soft and supple worsted-weight options with merino, cashmere, etc., would work well.

NOTE: The lace border stitch pattern is charted ONLY.

Interesting Note: The lace border is an Estonian lace pattern, belonging to the "Lily of the Valley“ patterns. It’s called "Ingrid Ruutel Pattern" from The Haapsalu Shawl Book by Siiri Reimann and Aime Edasi and was created specially for the former first lady of Estonia.
